Hit The Ice

Hit the mud.

Sega Genesis
Released in 1992 by Williams
Grade: F

As you probably know, ice hockey is a fast game. Why this supposedly lighthearted take on the sport moves SO SLOW is beyond me.

Where it falls in the series

It’s the only installment, released on Genesis, SNES, TurboGrafx-16, and GameBoy.

Gripes

Your two cartoon skaters seem to trudge slowly through mud as they coax the stubborn puck toward the goal.

The controls are awfully delayed and sticky. Like in the classic NES games Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel, you can move your goalie across the net to block shots, which is difficult to do while also controlling your clumsy skaters.

Games are uninterrupted by penalties, but there are goofy fights that aren’t fun. The other over-the-top gags fall flat in the midst of painfully frustrating gameplay.

This one isn’t even worth playing for curiosity’s sake. It’s just bad.
