By my score, the best hoops game on Genesis is NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, released in 1995.
Other members of the Jam family include the original NBA Jam (just as good as TE without a few features), College Slam (same old Jam engine but with bland presentation and a stupid new “super-turbo” feature), NBA Hang Time (a different engine and second-tier presentation), and technically, Arch Rivals (released in 1989 and not nearly as good as original Jam).
After that is EA’s NBA Live series accompanied by Coach K College Basketball. They’re all similar. If you want a firm recommendation from me, go with NBA Live 96. If you want a firm recommendation from everyone else in the world, go with NBA Live 95.
After that, it’s a sharp drop down a cliff you shouldn’t go down, my man.
